Saline Celtic Festival 5K Run/Walk

Participants received, along with their paid registration for the 5K, timed race results, FREE entry into the Saline Celtic Festival, a customized race t-shirt, and snacks & water following the race.

Music and Dance

The Saline Celtic Festival offers music and dance performances on three stages throughout the day, as well as Friday and Saturday evening performances on the Red Dragon Main Stage.

Highland Dance Competitions

Entry Fees are non-refundable. FUSTA-MW receives $1.00 donation from each entry to aid in the development of Scottish dancing in the region.

Highland Athletics

Due to popular demand, the scottish athletics are back! This year we we ran an amateur open event for men and women of all ages. Events: Heavy and Light Weight for Distance, Weight Over Bar, Sheaf Toss, Caber Toss, and Braemar and Open Stone. (7 events!)

Saline Celtic Festival’s 1st Annual Feis: A Celebration of Irish Dance and Song

Typical competitions of Reels, Light Jigs, Slip Jigs, Treble Jigs, Hornpipes, and Set dances, will be available to enter. Vocal competitions will be for songs in English and Irish Gaelic.

Celtic Survivor Tournament

The Celtic Festival payed host to a tournament for anyone who wished to try their hand at festive skills and challenges.  The contestant entered a tournament loaded with both physical and mental challenges, all the time trying to work their way through the ranks of the Feudal System.  The final stage was a showdown for the right to be called the King or Queen of the Saline Celtic Festival.

Rugby

Rugby is an exciting sport full of contact and skill. Played throughout Celtic communities world-wide it is the fore runner of American Football. The Saline Celts, Michigan Men's Club, Michigan Olde Blue, and Ann Arbor Academicals participated in this year's matches.

Pipe Bands

The pipe bands competing at the Saline Celtic Festival represent the best in Michigan and generally place in the top positions at other competitions around the state. They will each had a 15-minute slot to perform a five-minute judged competition set, then later Saturday afternoon, each band performed a twenty-minute concert set.  

Textile Tent

Demonstrations of wool spinning, weaving, and lace making. 

Jousting/Sheepherding/Animals

Throughout the day there was thrilling demonstrations of contact jousting, and border collie sheepherding. Also present was birds of prey, such as falcons, owls, and other raptors.

Wee Folk Activities

Wee Folks Island is a magical place for our wee Celts to go!  The Island features something for everyone, be they lad or lassie.

Presentations on traditional Celtic culture, including lifestyle, clothing, food.

Society for Creative Anachronism
Traditional Celtic Weaponry and Fencing Demonstrations

The Ann Arbor Sword Club
Sword displays and Fencing Demonstrations

Dark Ages Living History Association (a.k.a. “the Vikings”)
Display of traditional day to day life from the time period with axe throwing demonstrations throught the day.

Northland Militia
Live combat demonstrations throughout the day.

Other Field Events

Haggis Hurl
Demonstrate skills by hurling a Haggis, which is a traditional Celtic food, at a target. 

Golf Chipping
Show your prowess at the traditional Celtic game by chipping in a “closest to the pin” contest. 

Celtic Clobber
Show a friend your love in this pillow fight on steroids on top of our balance beam.
